26 years ago Suzanne Hurteau was hired as a police officer by Chief James Sherry. Her career progressed from PO to Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and as of July 3rd becoming the first female to hold the position of Chief of Police in any department on the East End! Congratulations!!! This was a moment a long time coming. We’d also like to congratulate Mayor Bill Manger and trustees Robin Brown and Roy Stevenson.

The Center of Parkinson’s Disease at SBSH hosted their 2nd annual PD Awareness Month Virtual Walking challenge. It was designed as a way to honor our amazing PD community here on the East End, while also encouraging folks to increase their activity and get out and walk! This year, as a fun way to create some good-hearted competition, we have challenged the Southampton High School track team. The collaboration also honors our partners in the community, while also - hopefully - increasing awareness of the disease during this important month. Just as our participants are tracking their walking and stepping, so too are the high school runners and athletes. On May 1 the Parkinson’s Disease Center from SBSH hosted an in-person awards ceremony at the Southampton High School track for students and PD participants to present the awards and honor both groups. Thanks to Mr. Epley's Community Service Club, students have created cards for all of our PD participants which were given at the Awards Ceremony at SHS. Southampton Village SROs assisted in the collaboration of the PD challenge.
